This is about championing high-quality, high-performing technical excellence, from design to implementation, in an agile environment. You’ll need in-depth knowledge of Java and C# for Android or iOS, as well as Rest API and Micro-services, if you’re to meet our architecture, design and coding standards. Not least because you’ll take personal responsibility for the budget estimates, design, development and configuration of applications, components, documentation and tools.

What we’re looking for

A hugely knowledgeable software developer, you’ll bring hands-on experience of large-scale architecture for web, and an authentic appreciation for object-oriented best practice and design patterns’ impact on robust mobile systems. You’ll also know how to plan and manage in an agile environment, efficiently configure off-the-shelf software and work with third party vendors. A relevant degree (or equivalent) would also be useful.

The rewards you’ll enjoy

The benefits are as impressive as the opportunity. Build your career at Transport for London and you can look forward to a final salary pension. From day one, you can enjoy free travel on the TfL network, 75% off a National Rail Season Ticket (and an interest free loan) and discounted Eurostar travel. There’s a tax-efficient cycle-to-work programme too. With 30 days of annual leave plus public and bank holidays, you can make your leisure time as exciting as your work. What’s more, you can choose to take advantage of a host of other benefits spanning childcare, private healthcare, retail discounts and more. Ideal advantages for a role that’s all about making sure the future looks great.

Business Intelligence (Bi) Architect - Customers, Communication and Technology

Fast pace. Vast scope. Revolutionary ideas. Join us and you’ll help to shape the future of world-class transport in the greatest global city. By 2030, 10 million people will live in London. Millions more will continue to visit. TfL keeps our amazing city moving, working and growing. But the challenge has never been bigger. Or more exciting. We’re already operating at the leading edge of tech and data. Every year, we invest in technology and now, we want to invest in you. Together, we’ll do the extraordinary.

What we can achieve

Get ready for an incredible journey – of discovery, of development, of achievement. We will push the boundaries of what tech and data can do. To understand where we’re going, let’s look at where we are today. Trains are more frequent and road journeys smoother thanks to advances in modern signalling tech. Customer experiences are being transformed by real-time information, via the groundbreaking iBus location system. And our pioneering work in contactless has made us the leaders of e-ticketing in transport. That’s not all. Mobile devices, virtual reality, Big Data – all these things and more are driving the evolution of what’s possible. Are you ready to play a part?

The role you’ll play

Our BI Architects design end-to-end data and analytics architecture for customer and operational projects. Key focuses here are quality, latency, detail and, of course, data security. You’ll create standardised methodologies, work on proof of concept, develop designs and contribute to long-term road maps. As a subject expert, we’ll also look to you to recommend where we invest going forward and spot any critical deficiencies that need to be addressed.

What we’re looking for

It’s something that calls for not only a deep understanding of cloud data warehousing methodologies, data modelling and big data; but their use in a multi-site, highly legislative, data sensitive public sector environment. You’ll know all about star schema and Kimball & Inmon. And as an expert project manager, you’ll intuitively turn loose requirements into high-level architecture. An influential personality; a relevant degree (or equivalent) is also vital.
